Christmas Movies Anyone?

We started watching Christmas movies the day after Thanksgiving. Our first group was The Santa Clause Movies:

The first one is my favorite of course.

The second one is even good.

But I'm not a fan of the 3rd one. I haven't heard or seen if there are any others. I think 3 is enough!

We then moved on to A Christmas Carol. I think we have just about every version of A Christmas Carol. My husband was in the mood for a musical so we watched this one with Kelsey Grammar:

Then I guess he was in the mood for something funny and irreverent so we popped in Scrooged with Bill Murray:

This has it's funny parts, but lots of naughty language...

My daughter and I then put in Home Alone. I have to confess though that shortly after we popped it in we both fell asleep! So we will probably watch this one again:

I don't know why, but I just love to watch this kid kick some burglar butts!

I have lots more movies to watch before Christmas so stay tuned!

THE ULTIMATE GIFT

Have you ever seen this movie? It is wonderful! James Garner plays the grandfather part. He has passed away and has left a video for his grandson Jason played by Drew Fuller. There are a series of tasks he must do in order to receive "The ultimate gift". One of the tasks is to find a best friend. He happens upon Emily(played by Abigail Breslin) and her mother in the park. A friendship blossoms and Jason eventually inherits the ultimate gift. Such a heart-warming, tear-jerker story! Loved it!

ACTION!

Last night my daughter and I were in the action movie frame of mind. Well, I was anyway, she'll watch whatever I put in! So these are the 2 we watched:

Arnold should have kept his acting job instead of becoming the "governator". But that is just my opinion! I do enjoy his acting, even though his accent is sometimes hard to decipher. I have loved this movie for years.

The A-Team movie was really well done. I enjoyed the original series, and thought that they captured the old team quite well. I wonder if there will be another movie?

More movies and a TV show

My husband is home during the days now so we watch what he wants...this is what he wanted! ha! Shrek is pretty funny!

This is part of our suspense/horror movie viewing. I hate abusive movies, but at least in the end the enemy gets his!

This reminds me a bit of The Sixth Sense. The ending is so unexpected. The book was pretty good too. Another one that was part of our suspense/horror viewing.

The 7th season of Bones started and I am so excited! Although I thought the first episode was a bit of a letdown, I'm hoping that the old camaraderie will pick up as the season continues.

Catching Up

We've been watching movies for the last couple of days but I haven't been keeping up on the blog. Whoops!

Here is the first one that we watched:

I originally went to the theater and saw this. I also read the book. I have to say that I like Billy Burke as Bella's dad in Twilight better than the dad in this movie! But it was an entertaining movie.

Our next movie was:

So I think this is the last of the Jaws movies. In this installment Jaws is out to get the Brody family for revenge. Revenge against what I have no clue. I don't believe it ever made clear if the shark was a relative of the others or what. It was still entertaining.

Next we watched:

I'm pretty much a fan of Johnny Depp in anything he acts in. This was pretty good and had a bit of a twist that was very entertaining.

Today our Horror movie was:

Stephen King is definitely the king of horror! I have to say I did like the book better. But this was suspenseful enough to keep our hearts pitter pattering and our hands covering our eyes at the gross parts!

Currently I have popped in a favorite series of mine:

I had an extreme crush on Pierce Brosnon when I was a kid and watched this show. He still is kinda handsome to me, but his singing in Mama Mia left a lot to be desired!

What are you watching?

Pride and Prejudice

This is the first version of Pride and Prejudice that I ever saw. I love it! It was presented on PBS over a 5 week period. I remember one time we went camping and I was going to miss an episode. I took my black and white TV and plugged it into an outlet at the restroom and watched my episode! It was great! David Rintoul plays Darcy and Elizabeth Garvie plays Elizabeth. I tend to watch this version when I am in a melancholy mood.

BURN NOTICE

I love BURN NOTICE. My Aunt Pete in Alabama is the first person to tell me about it. When I was there for Thanksgiving last year we watched a few of the episodes.  Once I got back home I caught up on all the ones I could on DVD.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the show, here is a little synopsis.  Michael Westen is a burned spy.  He found himself in Miami without any knowledge of why he was burned.  All of his assets were frozen so he has no money.  His ex-girlfriend Fiona is with him and his mother (Sharon Gless) also lives in the area.  The overarching storyline that flows from episode to episode is Michael trying to figure out why he was burned and to get back into the spy game. At the same time, Michael helps people with their problems as a way to make some money. Each episode provides a new case. Fiona (a tough gal that is an expert in weapons and explosives) helps out as well as his old friend from the spy days, Sam Axe.

This show is full of action and humor. It is kind of live an updated version of MacGyver.

Michael can make anything in a pinch. He uses cell phones for things all the time.  In an episode I watched just recently, he turned a Pringles can into an antenna.

Give it a try if you haven't already. There are several seasons available on DVD and the new season is about to start in a couple of days. It is on USA.

JAWS II

Yup, we got em all! Tonight's movie was Jaws 2. Of course not as good as the first Jaws, but at least it still had the same characters...except for Quint who of course got eaten in the original Jaws. Chief Brody was up to his usual crying wolf(which he gets fired for) until he is actually proven right. Such a sad fate for a couple of people. He saves the day and his youngest son in the end! How many more of these beasties are out there waiting to take revenge on humans? Well we have 2 more Jaws movies to go!

Signs and Jaws

Continuing on with our horror/suspense theme for the month my daughter and I first watched SIGNS tonight.

Mel Gibson plays a minister who has lost his faith in God at the death of his wife. When crop circles show up in his corn field he thinks it is the prank of local teens. What it is really are aliens come to earth to take over. This is one of my favorite scenes from the movie:

I really had to laugh out loud when this came on! They are protecting their brains from the aliens being able to read their thoughts. Too funny! While this is not a horror film, it does have elements of suspense.

The next movie we put in was JAWS:

Jaws is a classic! I saw it for the first time when I was around 10 or 12. Let me tell you, I had no desire to EVER go back into the water! Not just ocean water, but lake water as well! If I can't see the bottom, there is no way I want to be in it! My favorite line of the whole movie is "Your gonna need a bigger boat"(said by Roy Schreider who played Chief Brody) it makes me laugh every time, and it is used frequently around my house when things look a little overwhelming. I hated it when Quint(played by Robert Shaw) got eaten. I loved his crusty character. He was a hoot!

You may ask why we watch so many movies around my house. We do not get cable or dish or any TV enhancing equipment. We have poor reception with only rabbit ears to tune in order to get a TV station. So instead of going through all of that and get frustrated, we watch A LOT of movies. Plus at this time of year I am glued to my chair working on crochet projects for Christmas and watching a movie helps the time pass quicker and it helps my fingers move faster. So there are my excuses for being lazy and sitting in front of the tube!

Tune in later for what's up next!

Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger

Yep, I like a good hero movie! My husband has read all of the books featuring Jack Ryan. I've read only one.

In Hunt For Red October a Russian sub Captain(Sean Connery) is seeking to defect to America. His gift to the US is The Red October. A new submarine that is virtually silent in the water. Jack Ryan(Harrison Ford) is the analyst that figures out the Captains desire to defect.

In Patriot Games Jack accidentally stumbles into an attempt on the Royals life. In the process he kills one of the members brother. Sean(Sean Bean) then comes to America to seek revenge on Jack and his family.

In Clear and Present Danger the US government has sent a secret troop to Columbia to wipe out the drug cartel. When things get too hot and the higher up officials decide to pull the plug on the operation Jack has to go to Columbia to save hostages.

Fun movies and Harrison Ford makes a great hero!

THE WALKING DEAD: SEASON 2

I love this show.  As a fan of zombies and post apocalyptic movies and books this is right up my alley.  I watched the first season as it came out online and was hoping that since I have Dish Network now I'd be able to watch it on TV this time.  Well, it turns out my particular package doesn't have AMC as one of the available channels.  Bummer. So, I'm watching them online again.

Today and yesterday I caught up on Season 2 - Episodes 1 and 2.  Some terrible things happen to the two young kids traveling with the group during these episodes.  So sad.

Also, one particular character is really becoming my favorite. Daryl Dixon.

When we first met him in Season 1 he was nothing but a jerk, but several things have happened that has really changed his character. I would definitely want him by my side if I was trying to survive the zombie apocalypse.  Interestingly enough, I'm not really fond of the main characters of the show with the exception of the Sheriff - Rick Grimes.
I think he is a total cutie!

If you don't like blood and gore, you won't want to watch this show.  I'm telling you what. ICK!

THE WALKING DEAD comes on Sundays at 8PM Central on AMC.

Top Gun

I loved this movie when I was young. It still makes me laugh and cry AND get goosebumps!

IT

My daughter and I have been going through our horror/suspense movies this month. Today's movie is IT based on the book by Stephen King. A funny story: my daughter and a friend were watching this movie one day. They came out all mad saying how stupid the ending was. They then told me about it and I had to laugh because they had only watched half of the movie. They didn't realize that they needed to turn the disc over in the DVD player to watch the rest of it.

ONCE UPON A TIME

Tonight I watched the Pilot episode of ONCE UPON A TIME on ABC. I've been looking forward to GRIM and was excited when a friend told me about this one.  I didn't know about it at all.

The main character, Emma Swan, is a 28-year-old bail bonds person that is approached one night by the 10-year-old son she gave up for adoption.  Henry tells her she has to come back with him to Storybrook, Maine to save the people there.  They were cursed by the Evil Queen 28 years ago and forced to live in the town where time stands still.  All the fairy tale characters in town don't remember their storybook lives and can't escape. Snow White, is now Henry's teacher.  The Evil Queen is the Mayor and Henry's adopted mother. Tonight we only met a handful of characters, but there will be many more to come.

This show is soooo clever.  I loved it.  I'm really looking forward to the future episodes.

Next up, GRIMM (Friday, October 28th on NBC at 8 PM Central)
ONCE UPON A TIME
ABC
Tuesday - 7 PM (Central)

Football?

Well it looks like I am not in control of the remote today. So I guess we will be playing channel surfing. Right now my honey has settled on a football game. I think I may go read a book or take a nap! Snooze snooze to football! And speaking of football...if you are living in Sooner country like I am, how disappointing was last night's game against Texas Tech? And to add insult to injury it was a home game! Uh oh! Good thing that a win or a loss for college football or even NFL does not affect my outlook on life. Enjoy your Sunday! What's on your TV today?

Bones Season 6

My daughter and I just finished watching Bones Seasons 1-6. Just in time for the new season to start on November 3rd(at least I think). I have to say I hated the way season 6 ended. And seriously? Bones is pregnant? For an intelligent person I thought she would be more careful and calculated. Although she has wanted a baby for a couple of seasons. So maybe this was her way of getting it. And poor Nigel Murray! Made me sad! Can't wait to see the first episode of the new season!

IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA

Right now I'm watching the 6th Season of IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA. This series is one that I watch over and over and over again.  I can have it on in the background while I'm cleaning or working on the computer.

It is filled with wildly inappropriate situations, but I find it absolutely hilarious!!!  I made Julie watch one episode with me and I think she liked it a little. I know we were both cracking up through the whole thing.
